The Government of India has undertaken an all-encompassing systematic approach for carrying out sustained efforts to reduce the degree of regulatory compliances which have an adverse impact on time and cost of businesses. Efforts are being made to Simplify, Rationalize and Digitize Government to Business (G2B) and Government to Citizen (G2C) Interfaces to decrease the time and cost burden and improve Ease of Doing Business for industrialists/ investors along with Ease of Living for citizens.

The Ease of Doing Business framework, through the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) aims to significantly minimize regulatory compliance for businesses & industries and decriminalize minor offences. State Governments are actively engaged in envisioning, designing and implementing the reforms to be undertaken each year to make it easier, simpler and quicker for businesses to operate for their entire life cycle.

From its inception till the year 2019, the Ease of Doing Business ranking of Meghalaya was among the lowest. In the year 2020, Meghalaya was recognized as an “Emerging Business Ecosystem” by DPIIT- an acknowledgement that is a testament to the State's dedicated commitment to creating a favorable business environment. Meghalaya has taken proactive steps for digitization of records and carrying out the minimizing compliance burden exercise in the State by identifying burdensome compliances & redundant rules to eventually remove / minimize / simplify them.

  • Total 304 compliances have been identified by Departments, out of which 280 are related to Businesses and 24 compliances are related to Citizens.
  • Out of 304 compliances, 167 (Business-143, Citizens -24) compliances have been reduced.
